“Choose a job you love,
and you will never have to work a day in your life.” --Confucius
When you do what you love, it often
doesn’t seem like work at all. I am a living example of this every single day
in my role as a parent, an educator, and a photographer, but it is always a
blessing to witness the phenomenon through the lens of my camera.

Today I had the honor of capturing images
that chronicle:
- work that doesn’t seem like work at all,
- the act of giving back to a community who has given and continues to offer its unwavering love and support to a Hometown Hero and,
- the edification of kids about basketball AND about life.
NBA point guard Eric Maynor is hosting a Basketball
Camp for local youth, and I have not seen a group of kids more eager to learn about anything in a really long
time. Camp staff is personable and capable, and they all seem to really love what they do and believe in the seeds they are sowing in the lives of the kids.
I
watched everyone participate in group drills like they have been doing so
together for an entire season instead of for a few hours today.
Most
importantly, the kids learned and could tell when asked, the ingredients that
make up a great athlete, academics included! As an educator, I was impressed, and I believe I could possibly recruit a few teachers from this staff. They were real with the kids about the merits of effort and determination, and made sure they understand that the odds of
playing in the NBA are less than winning the lottery. The kids were not discouraged; they accepted this reality about life, worked harder, and appeared to be more determined because
of it. Like great educators, Eric and his staff gave instructions, pushed when a push was needed, and applauded when the job was well done.

Hats off to Eric Maynor, his family, and
staff for giving back; and for allowing all involved to do what we love, which today did
not seem much like work at all.
